THE Muslim message of peace and love will be impossible to miss as a new campaign starts in Coventry.

The slogans 'Muslims for Loyalty, Peace and Tolerance', and 'Love for All, Hatred for None' have been plastered on buses in the city.

The campaign is being run by The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, which aims to make a bold statement against extremism and the growing misunderstanding of Islam.

Mumtaz Malik, president of the Coventry branch of the association, said acts of terrorism and extremism such as 9/11 and 7/7 sickened and saddened him.

"It's a contradiction in terms for these people to say they are 'peaceful terrorists' - they carry out abhorrent acts which are completely against Muslim models and values," he said.

"It's about time we stood up against it - there are so many wonderful things to celebrate in British society including freedom of religion and speech - and people who commit these acts spoil everything.

"We hope to help people better understand Islam so they are able to judge for themselves the actions of those who claim to speak and act in its good name, he added. "We face a tremendous task ahead but it's worth it and most people are decent and open-minded."

A leaflet drop has also been taking place in the city aiming to address some common misconceptions about Islam and almost 1,000 homes have been visited by Ahmadi Muslims so far.

Part of a national campaign launched in January, the leaflet covers the subjects of loyalty, freedom, equality, respect and peace - and the Ahmadi community aims to eventually reach all homes in Coventry.
